1/31/2024 0 Comments Stath lets flats tv seriesIf your brain doesn’t immediately parse the Britishisms in the title, the premise of Stath Lets Flats needs some explanation: Stath (Jamie Demetriou), an enthusiastic and incredibly incompetent young man, works for his father’s rental agency, where he helps people find apartments (flats) to rent (let). I watched both seasons in one day and then I sat and thought about why Stath Lets Flats is the first show in nearly 20 years to feel like a legitimate successor to The Office. So when I finally got a chance to sit down and do some work, I decided it was time to try Stath Lets Flats, a British comedy that had been on my list for a while, something that felt light and low stakes but also absorbing. I spent the weekend trying to frantically scrape together some sense of order, which mostly failed. My family just moved, which is a harrowing situation with two young kids even if you’re not doing it in the middle of about a dozen overlapping global crises. My life has felt a little discombobulated lately. But the story and the set-piece jokes – Stath enjoyed romantically cutting the hair of his colleague and “mayor of gentleman town”, Al (Al Roberts) – weren’t the draw.Natasia and Jamie Demetriou in Stath Lets Flats. So began Stath’s quest to get a new “park time” job at his cousin’s barbers. While he could barely contain his excitement, it wasn’t exactly good timing – Michael and Eagle had been forced to relocate to his father’s (Christos Stergioglou) house and, until they convinced their landlords to stick with them and found another office, they couldn’t pay anyone. The show picked up nine months after the series two finale, with Carole (Katy Wix) about to give birth to Stath’s (Demetriou) baby at any moment. After a long break, its silly yet heartfelt return last night proved it’s still the daftest show on television. Stath Lets Flats, Jamie Demetriou’s brilliant series about the off-the-wall, loveable agents at Michael and Eagle Lettings won the Bafta for Best Scripted Comedy last year – beating Catastrophe, Derry Girls and Fleabag.
